In the context of steadily promoting the achievement of the "double carbon" goal, China's photovoltaic industry is shaping a new advantage of high-quality development through technological innovation.

Data show that in the first half of China's photovoltaic industry chain, the main links in the production of high-speed growth, polycrystalline silicon, silicon wafers, cells, components, a new record output, year-on-year growth of more than 65%.

From the higher conversion efficiency of the cell to a more stable grid technology, the continuous emergence of technological innovation has become China's photovoltaic industry chain from the production capacity of the leading technology to lead the "accelerator".

Heterojunction (HJT) PV modules produced by Tongwei Solar (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. have recently been certified by a third-party organisation, achieving a technological breakthrough in power enhancement. The company's advanced technology department deputy minister Meng Xiajie said, compared with traditional cell components, HJT cell components have more high temperature resistance, double-sided power generation and other advantages, the higher the power of the module, the higher the efficiency, the lower the cost of power generation.

"Now the whole industry is working towards the pursuit of higher module power, that is to say, under the unit area, the PV module in the product life cycle, each generation of electricity can save more cost. High-power modules applied to ground-based centralised power plant scenarios can save more kWh cost." Meng Xiajie said.

At present, to improve the battery conversion efficiency is considered a key part of the photovoltaic industry sustained technological breakthroughs, the cell field presents a multi-technology route to innovation and development trend.

CICC research department of power equipment and new energy industry chief analyst Zeng Tao said, in addition to the HJT cell, TOPCon and calcite and other cell technologies also in the conversion efficiency and cost control than the traditional cell has more potential, is attracting photovoltaic enterprises to increase the layout.

In order to cope with the high proportion of new energy sources such as photovoltaic access to the challenge of stable operation of the power system, headquartered in Hefei, Anhui Province, the new energy equipment manufacturing company Sunny Power Co., Ltd. has developed a photovoltaic energy storage system for the application of the "stem cell grid technology".

Sunny Power relevant technical person in charge said, like stem cells to help human tissue repair and blood production, this technology can make the energy storage system through flexible participation in the grid peak, frequency to improve the efficiency of energy use, and in the voltage failure and power generation off the grid and other special circumstances such as a rapid response to reduce the voltage fluctuations and restore power supply, to help the stable operation of the power grid.

The latest data from the National Energy Board shows that as of the end of June, China's installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation was 470 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world for eight consecutive years.

"On the basis of the scale effect to enhance the cost advantage, China has led the PV industry chain into a high-quality development stage by setting higher technological progress targets and guiding industrial capital, human and material resources into advanced technology fields with forward-looking policies." Zeng Tao said.

The Action Plan for the Innovative Development of Intelligent Photovoltaic Industry (2021-2025), jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other ministries and commissions, points out that by 2025, the level of intelligence in the PV industry will be significantly improved, and breakthroughs will be made in industrial technological innovation. Specific development goals include new high-efficiency solar cells mass production conversion efficiency significantly improved, as well as support new power system capacity significantly enhanced and so on.

Consort Solar Ltd. is also committed to the new N-type cell technology, its scope includes solar cells, photovoltaic modules, photovoltaic energy storage systems, power plant project development, intelligent operation and management platform research and development as the core product direction. It focuses on the development and investment of whole county promotion, whole village convergence, rural revitalisation projects and provides advanced distributed PV projects, energy storage systems and intelligent energy management solutions for European households and domestic industrial and commercial enterprises.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) released a relevant report in July last year, pointing out that the world's top ten PV equipment manufacturers are all located in China. China's dominance in solar PV manufacturing is expected to continue, if not further increase, given the manufacturing plants under construction and planned.
